Can you tell me what your new TV show will reveal about you that we don't already know?
I guess there's not much mystery left to me. It's going to document more of my everyday life, how I build my activism into it, my last two months of travelling. It doesn't show my children but there's plenty of me being a mum and juggling my career. It's very high-energy. I like to do everything myself - I'm very hands-on with my housekeeping, my children, travelling, how I do things.
Are you trying to be seen in a different light?
No, I don't think this dispels any myths. It pretty much seals the deal that I'm nuts. I wasn't trying to clean up my image - it's just how I juggle it. I have the same issues everybody has.
Are you trying to set yourself up as a role model?
I'm a good example of someone who can come to Hollywood and keep their feet on the ground with all the rock stars, all the drama that goes with being here. It's still important to pump your own gas and to be able to vacuum.
It shows a lot of the campaigning you do for Peta [People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals].
Yes, it was one of my ulterior motives for doing the show. A reality show seems desperate and like the end of your career, and everybody tells you not to do it, so of course I had to. I thought, "I know I can make this somewhat cool," and I think I did.
Are you a feminist?
I don't consider myself a feminist but I feel very empowered as a woman and I've used all my resources widely. I believe in equality, but that's just naturally happening. I still want a door opened for me, to be treated like a lady, but I also want equal rights for women, of course.
What do you think of Sarah Palin?
I'm not a big fan. I want Barack Obama for president. I love Obama. I call Palin the helicopter huntress from hell! I want my children to have a wonderful future and it's disturbing when I look around. Americans aren't very well liked. A likable president would be a great start.
How do you feel about the way Hollywood sees older women?
I can't wait to get old. I like my 40s. It's nice having all that behind me and thinking, "I don't want to do that again." European women age beautifully. In America you don't know if they got the work done too soon or they got great work done when they were older. Hopefully, I won't ever go there.
Do you miss the Baywatch days?
It was great while it lasted - the best job in the whole world.
Do you wish you'd done more serious acting?
Maybe that's in my future. At this point, being with my kids is the most important thing. I may just be on QVC one day selling butt blasters or something. I'm sure I'll find a way to make a living.
Do you have any regrets career-wise?
Getting married when I did Barb Wire. No, you can't have any regrets, even the shambles, even the crazy things I've done. This is a very nice time in my life - there's not a lot of lawsuits, there are no marriages falling apart, it's very calm right now.
If a young woman came to you wanting to do the Playboy spread, what advice would you give?
It's very dangerous. I don't know what protected me but in my early days in Playboy, people were offering me $10,000 to jump into a Jacuzzi with them, and [I was] calling Hefner [to tell him]. The other girls were always mad at me. They were like, "This is how we make extra money."
Hollywood is going to rip you apart. It's a tough city.
Do you feel responsible for a generation of women thinking that it's a great career choice because you make it look so easy?
It's not a career you can choose: it chooses you, it follows you.
Is it a career you would advise anyone to get into?
It depends what part of the career you're asking about. [Selling] lotions and skin products? That's a good idea. A show like Baywatch? Marrying a rock star?
The glamour side of things?
I wasn't a gorgeous 6ft 16-year-old being swept off to Milan, I was just doing my thing in California and that would be hard on any girl. But I was pretty tough and I've somehow survived.
Have you had lots of therapy?
I have had some. I have a great guy that's been around me for 15 years and he likes to yell at me every time I come into the office. He's a cranky old man. I love him. He is a Jungian therapist. He's taught me to listen to my psyche, be aware of what is going on and to make great choices. I have had him say, "I will quit the business if you don't stop with this".
